old mechanism - new mechanism

One of the most important facets of my work is the understanding and remoulding of the mechanisms that bring the artist to a point of crisis. Very often it is these mechanisms which are generally responsible for putting us in a situation where change is only possible through growth and learning.

A combination of what one has been taught professionally, one´s general habits and ways of doing things, and how one has reacted to crises in life, all have a strong influence on the formation of patterns which have the power to dictate our futures.

When an artist hits professional crisis for the first time, the root causes may be very simple : a medical problem that is correctly diagnosed, an unforseen event, or quite simply that overused expression - stress. If the artist acts quickly the problem can be solved. If not, the original problem is very easily magnified. Doubts, compensatory behaviour and further medical complications can occur, and what would originally have been easily cured has become a very complex picture. It may of course be the case that the artist was originally unable to discover the root cause of their problem, in spite of specialists, a plethora of technical advice and even medical intervention.

A chief aim is to unravel the various knots and mechanisms that lead the artist to crisis, to make sense of them, and realign them into a helpful and productive pattern that not only leads the artist back out into the professional world but supports them through the difficult phases to come.
